Truth When You Need It

Biocentrism is a popular new explanation for life and the universe by Dr. Lanza, one of the most highly regarded scientists of our time. Consciousness came first, and matter a temporal outcome... Sounds a lot like the revelation of Mary Baker Eddy. I have bought the book and will peruse it before presenting a comparison.

But up front, I suspect that Lanza steers clear of motive and the touchy subject of evil! After all, who does deal with it, beyond assigning it to a devil personality in opposition to a God personality! Does consciousness include both? Mrs. Eddy does not shy away from the subject, much to the discomfort of many of her followers who have accused her of making too much of it!!

But any honest thinker must grapple with evil at some point. Bad things happen. People can be pretty nasty, etc. Why and where does it come from? While we're at it, where does a mistake in a mathematical equation come from? Why can't everything be perfect all the time?

When "the Jews" (John's appellation) challenged Jesus, he declared:

"Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it."

Mrs. Eddy bases her explanation of evil on this. In order to be the father of a liar, surely one must be a lie - a suppositional opposite of the true. Think of it. In order to have a mistake in math, you must have a correct solution, otherwise of what is the mistake??

Instead of giving evil manifestations the same credibility as good, essentially the same stature of reality, Mrs. Eddy concludes that if God, good, did not make it, it is a lie, not real. From this standpoint, she proceeds to teach how to "handle" evil - evil classified as sin, disease, and death.
