Truth When You Need It

The general consensus among Christians is that grace, unmerited favor, is bestowed upon man, alleviating him from sin's punishment, by a loving God, ON OCCASION.  Christian Science declares that a sinner cannot be saved, meaning that as long as one sins, he is a sinner by definition. Saved, he stops sinning and therefore is no longer a sinner.

In the following, falsity is equivalent to sin, and Truth is synonomous with God:

"A falsity does not hold me. I hold it. Truth holds me; I do not hold it... Spirituality is the normal condition of man. Christianity is not a state for man to get into. Materiality is the state for man to get out of and then he is in his normal condition, the condition in which we were really created, in the image and likeness of God." (MBE, COURSE IN DIVINITY AND GENERAL COLLECTANEA - Blue Book)

Does this contradict the concept of grace? No, but it refutes the idea of a changeable God who acts according to His own man-like desires - a man-projected God. Instead, it recognizes creation as depicted in the first chapter of Genesis as the grace of God, unmerited because man did nothing to earn it:

"And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion... And God blessed them."
