Truth When You Need It

Today in the US, the health care discussion is centered entirely around visits to the doctor or hospital, treatment for disease, including medication, and who is going to pay for it all. Instead of health care, it would be better described as sickness care.

Health care should describe the proactive activities that maintain health. For our purposes, this would center around one's state of thought and feeling.

When I worked for corporate America, we were alloted a certain number of sick days each year which I rarely used. Occasionally, I would take what I referred to as a mental health day, reasoning that I was avoiding multiple sick days by proactively taking care of my health, by insuring my oil was not too low.

Symptoms of the oil getting low? Feeling perpetually dragged out or on edge, no joy, fearful, etc.

The 23rd Psalm is ideal medication for maintaining health, lying down in green pastures by still waters, restoring soul, etc.

In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures is a marvellous definition of oil: "Consecration; charity; gentleness; prayer; heavenly inspiration." When these qualities are nurtured, we are taking care of our health and will find little need for sickness care.

Listen to these fortifying statements, medication with only good side-effects - SH p390-393
