We started our Thursday meeting by reading Hymn 194: “No mortal sense can still or stay, the flight of silent prayer. Unceasing, voiceless, heart desire, that seeks God everywhere.”
Our topic for the meeting was Matthew 12: 44: “When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.”
The questions we considered were:
- What is an “unclean spirit”?
- Ever had "an unclean spirit" leave you? Under what circumstance?
- Ever had "seven other spirits more wicked" come in?
- How can this happen?
The answers we brought to the table as a group will be shared in the notes below. It was also pointed out that this is an area that we don’t just ignore – we need to think about it and check ourselves daily. The command statements in Science & Health page 390-393 are quite helpful in regards to this topic.
