We opened our meeting with Hymn 156:
In Thee, O Spirit true and tender,
I find my life as God's own child;
Within Thy light of glorious splendor
I lose the earth-clouds drear and wild.
Readings were also given from Isaiah, chapter 42.
The passage under discussion tonight was from Science & Health (p. 459): “Committing the bare process of mental healing to frail mortals, untaught and unrestrained by Christian Science, is like putting a sharp knife into the hands of a blind man or a raging maniac, and turning him loose in the crowded streets of a city.” There is nothing vague or wishy-washy about this analogy of a blind man or raging maniac with a knife, so we worked to better understand what was meant by “untaught and unrestrained,” in particular, as well as other aspects of this statement.
Our second topic of discussion was: How do we rid ourselves of the quoting habit? (Meaning by this, how do we refrain from just rattling off Christian Science or Biblical quotes when having a conversation with someone?)
Examples and inspirations from both of our topics will be shared in the comments section below.
We ended with Hymn 99:
He that has God his guardian made
Shall under the Almighty's shade
Secure and undisturbed abide:
Thus to myself of Him I'll say,
He is my fortress and my stay,
My God, in whom I will confide.
