"Because thine heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a God, I sit in the throne of God... though thou hast set thine heart as the heart of God..." (Ez. 28) - Ezekiel's message to the prince of Tyrus continues with a prophecy of the destruction of Tyrus, an enormously rich and successful city.
This means not much if we read this as ancient history! So how might it apply today?
I doubt very much that the prince of Tyrus actually said "I am God," but is not that what one does, in essence, when one does not acknowledge a higher Intelligence? - especially when that one has great achievements to justify his position?
Today, we can look at Europe as a prime example - where Socialism has snuffed out any semblance of Christianity, and has taken on the "I am God." Ezekiel's prophesy seems to apply very well: "Thou shalt die the deaths of the uncircumcised by the hand of strangers." This is the reward of knowing what is best for everyone without recourse to the divine Principle/Love of all being.
The relevant question for each of us: Am I taking the place of God in any aspect of my life?

"All substance, intelligence, wisdom, being, immortality, cause, and effect belong to God. These are His attributes, the eternal manifestations of the infinite divine Principle, Love. No wisdom is wise but His wisdom; no truth is true, no love is lovely, no life is Life but the divine; no good is, but the good God bestows." (S&H)
