Getting to the root of corruptibility

How do good people so often descend into some kind of corruption when placed in a position of power? Ah, it is the human condition, they say. You have to take the good with the bad. To err is human...

Is this the end of the story, and we just have to live with it? Is there no other explanation, no better way?

The Bible often refers to this corruptible human condition - "For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive."  But practically speaking, what can we do?

In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures we find: "Divine Science reveals the eternal chain of existence as uninterrupted and wholly spiritual [Jesus referred to it as "before Abraham was, I am"]; yet this can be realized only as the false sense of being disappears." How does this false sense of being disappear?

When I see or think of someone, instead of holding them in mind as a corruptible human, I strive to hold them in thought as an expression of God, born of Spirit, obedient to the Mind that made them. If in a position of power, I insist the only power there is belongs to God. This serves to bless them, (better than thinking of them as corrupt!) and helps me relinquish this false sense of being. The Bible describes it thus:  "Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." (II Cor.)

This is spiritualization of thought. It works. When you meet someone who strives to do this, you feel a healthy presence, a quiet confidence, a strength that is not easily moved.
