Follow your dreams?

A popular piece of advice is to follow your dreams. On the face of it, it may sound good. Some people seem to do quite well in following their dreams. Others, not so much.

What is the legitimacy of a dream, a deep desire? Just as with any thought, it could be good, or it could be destructive. How do we tell? If following our dream leads to a more self-absorbed life, one with less concern for our fellow-man, we can be sure it is bad-news, self-destructive and harmful to those we love.

The following from S&H:

"Unselfish ambition, noble life-motives, and purity, — these constituents of thought, mingling, constitute individually and collectively true happiness, strength, and permanence."

"Desire is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds."
