How can people be so stupid?

Have you ever been tempted to wonder how people can be so stupid? I have. And it is always accompanied by an unrelenting, disturbed feeling. Perhaps this is what Jesus referred to in the Sermon on the Mount: "whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire." Why should this be when it is clear that people are being stupid?!

There is no need to get into the whys and wherefores. The moment I think people are stupid, I deny God, for our premise is that God is mind, the only Mind. When I deny God, I am embroiled in wrong thinking, in mental malpractice! No wonder it brings an unrelenting, disturbed feeling!

What to do, then, when the evidence is so compelling? Right there, at the door of thought, when stupidity comes knocking, pray:

"When thou prayest, enter into thy closet..." (Sermon on the Mount)

"The Father in secret is unseen to the physical senses, but He knows
all things and rewards according to motives, not according to speech.
To enter into the heart of prayer, the door of the erring senses must be closed.
Lips must be mute and materialism silent, that man may have audience with Spirit,
the divine Principle, Love, which destroys all error. " (S&H)

It takes some effort, but well worth avoiding "hell fire", and furthermore it will do some good for those upon whom our thought rests, for it will be Love.
