Today we watched the eclipse through those special glasses which enable you to look directly into the sun. As the moon passed in front of the sun, it became much cooler here on earth, but even when most of the sun was obscured (only visible with the special glasses), it still shone brightly. Apparently 30 miles away it went completely dark mid-afternoon, but here it was like dusk even with only the tiniest sliver of sun peaking from behind the moon.
This was a hint of how the power of Truth works in world consciousness. "The rays of infinite Truth, when gathered into the focus of ideas, bring light instantaneously, whereas a thousand years of human doctrines, hypotheses, and vague conjectures emit no such effulgence."(S&H) That light affects world consciousness!
When Jesus Christ brought forth the Sermon on the Mount (and much more), it was in a dying language with no institution to broadcast it, and was not even transcribed until years later, and yet its light has lit up the whole world.
When we declare with absolute conviction that God is good, that God is love, that God is omnipotent and universal, the power of these truths emit a light into the darkness of human consciousness - even though it may be a pin of light, it makes a big difference. This was the lesson from watching the eclipse. There is always a lesson to be had as we are open to it, expecting it.
