With the world in the throes of divisiveness, the concept of Oneness seems remote, not humanly possible. However, I find the following most promising: “One universal God, good, unifies men and nations; constitutes the brotherhood of man; ends wars; fulfills the Scripture, ‘Love thy neighbor as thyself’;” * But how on earth are we going to get everyone to buy-in to “one universal God, good?”
Let me share an experience that has helped me on this point. In the middle of a Christmas shopping season, I was required to pick something up in the busiest of all shopping malls. What I mean by “required” is that I felt God had given me this to do. I proceeded, trusting that I would be given the way to do what I had been given to do. At the mall, it was wall-to-wall people, but I walked through it all with a sense of peace - no pushing and shoving but just total harmony - yes, Oneness! I did what I needed to and left the mall in a state of joy with not a stitch of stress.
The takeaway from this experience is that I did not wait for the crowds at the mall to buy-in to Oneness. Rather it was the outcome of my own communion with the one universal God, good. Using this premise in addressing the turmoil in the world, I can do much within my own consciousness to ameliorate what is going on. Being fearful, resentful, frustrated, fixated on personality only serves to exacerbate the turmoil. But to recognize man as the expression of God, God being the basis of the brotherhood of man, and the means by which man loves his neighbor as himself - this brings an unmistakable positive energy. As I understand it, this is a glimpse of how Jesus Christ operated.
