09/10/15 - Midweek session - Definition of man

Prepare thought to receive a new inspiration

Listen to "What is man?" in Science and Health

A broad range of fresh thought was presented - practical things - hopefully participants will share through comments.

One of the key points in this definition of man is that mortal man has never fallen and nor does he need to be redeemed. He is one big mistake. We should not be thinking it has anything to do with the real man, God's creation. It is Science to declare for God's man, to claim that identify for ourselves and others. This is how Jesus healed.

Then, to throw a wrench into the whole thing, a quote of Mrs Eddy was shared: "If you think you are not mortal, you are mistaken." Seems like a contradiction of everything she taught! NOTICE THE CONTEXT: This was spoken to a group of faithful Christian Scientists who gathered from the ends of the earth to get a glimpse of Mary Baker Eddy. Most were flying high, exhilerated by the moment. Mrs. Eddy must have felt the weight of their carnal desire to see and hear her in the flesh, and full of pride to be a part of such a privileged group. They came for a blessing, and they got what they needed, but undoubtedly many went away confused, if they even heard what she said.

It was brought out that it is called Christian Science because the Science is appled to the human condition, and this requires spiritual sense to know the need of the moment. The above statement was addressing pride. You can be sure that Mrs. Eddy would bless a hungering heart with an assurance that, in fact, the individual was beloved of God, an immortal man.
