  • 12/24/15 - Christmas Eve Watch Session

Each participant is invited to bring a favorite Bible selection suitable for the occasion. (too long, and the message is lost - consider the listener!)

WATCH Outline - starting at home and working out

Man is, I am, the expression of Soul.
Any sentiment of personal sense, any guilt, yearning for past times, etc. is error - holiday mesmerism is not of God, therefore groundless, without purpose, non-sense.
We celebrate the feast of Soul, which carries with it clarity, strength and wisdom to do His will.

  • A prayer for the social/economic upheaval of the world

"It is 'a consummation devoutly to be wished' that all nations shall speedily learn and practise the intermediate line of justice between the classes and masses of mankind, and thus exemplify in all things the universal equity of Christianity.” (Miscellany)

"In all things the universal equity of Christianity" is the will of divine Love.

  • Corruption in government, society - what can we do about it?

The violence in Chicago, the gridlock in DC, the poverty in the inner cities all stem from corruption - human will mocking divine Principle.

Please bring thoughts with supporting references from the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy. The references should not replace your thinking process, but reinforce it.

  • Enrich the affections of all mankind

"And may Thy Word enrich the affections of all mankind." (from the Daily Prayer, Manual)

What would prevent the divine revelation of Christian Science from reaching mankind? Identify a specific example and construct a treatment to "handle" it.

The treatment should begin and end with an absolute statement. The specific example should be addressed and reversed after the opening absolute statement.

  • Evolution of man a dangerous myth

Based upon the earliest Bible records, the heart of man has not evolved one iota over thousands of years. Job’s pride, shame, fear, self-righteousness, as well as his capacity for redemption, the materialism and sensualism of Sodom and Gomorrah - are these not characteristic of the modern man’s heart? Take any ancient Bible character, and you will find the same human heart that we are quite familiar with.

  • How to compile a good watch

TEXT: (offered notes from one of our participants) - China reportedly is overtaking our commerce, buying up many of our companies, etc., and the U.S. government seems not to care. This Country was initiated by God in the first place and He wants it to succeed. God, being all there is, is really our government. Know that Principle rules. Evil, seen as a hidden take-over, has no place in God's domain. These statements cannot be reversed. /// "The law of God cannot be made flexible. (What has the law of God to do with China buying up America?) Everything! In contra-disdinction to material law, spiritual law is inflexible. It is never two-sided, nor can it be made to conform to human desire or will. It is the law of divine Principle, the law of absolute Truth, the law of immutable Love, the law of eternal Life. There is no law too insidious or too deeply rooted to be made to yield to this immutable law of God, good." WPA

DISCUSSION: We want to take the good (Principle) in this text, throw out the bad (any personal sense), and compile a powerful watch, stating the claim to be handled, opening with the absolute truth, handling the claim, finishing with the absolute truth.

  • How to discern cheap metaphysics

How do we discern cheap metaphysics which has become the hallmark of so many systems in this day and age, including Christian Science post Mary Baker Eddy? If the spirit of our blessed Master is not there, you can bet it is cheap!!

  • Identify the lie for Truth to correct

"Truth should, and does, drive error out of all selfhood. Truth is a two-edged sword, guarding and guiding. Truth places the cherub wisdom at the gate of understanding to note the proper guests. Radiant with mercy and justice, the sword of Truth gleams afar and indicates the infinite distance between Truth and error, between the material and spiritual, — the unreal and the real." S&H

    1. Where is the selfhood referred to in our Text?

    2. Identify at least one lie in the world today and apply the appropriate truth. In identifying the lie, all sense of person, place, or thing must be "abstracted out."  ("It is neither person, place, nor thing, but is simply a belief, an illusion of material sense."S&H)

    3. What does "the cherub wisdom at the gate of understanding" look like to you?

  • Living it instead of believing in it

This morning I opened to Paul's letter to the Colossians chapter 2. If this is not a warning of church organization, I don't know what is! This is what I get:

"As you have received the Christ, Truth, use it.

  • Prayer vs Watching

What might be the distinction between prayer and watching?

To me, Psalm 91 is an ideal prayer because it leads us into a place of refuge, where we can feel the safety, feel the presence of something very good, where we can trust God with our desires.

Watching, on the other hand, is more assertive, acknowledging a mental warfare going on "under the radar."  This kind of assertive mental work is treacherous unless there is a moral foundation outside of the individual, in other words, unless the Divine Will is the goal.

  • Readings on meeting the need brings protection

Dale will be providing the reading selections - followed by a brief discussion around what we got from the readings.

Be prepared to share something that might be helpful to someone else.

This is also an exercise of remembering the many blessings. It helps to stop and really think about it. If do not cultivate an awareness, an acknowledgement of God's constant care, we might assume we are something when we are actually nothing!

  • The genus of error

TEXT: from Science and Health p.103

    The genus of error
As named in Christian Science, animal magnetism or
hypnotism is the specific term for error, or mortal mind.
It is the false belief that mind is in matter, and
is both evil and good; that evil is as real as
good and more powerful. This belief has not one qual-
ity of Truth. It is either ignorant or malicious. The
malicious form of hypnotism ultimates in moral idiocy.
The truths of immortal Mind sustain man, and they anni-
hilate the fables of mortal mind, whose flimsy and gaudy
pretensions, like silly moths, singe their own wings and
    fall into dust.

DISCUSSION: be ready to share how the following seem to appear in your own experience, and what you can do about it.

    1. "mind is in matter"

    2. "mind is both good and evil"

    3. "evil is as real as good and more powerful"

  • The goal of watching

TEXT: The following text concludes the article "Caution in the Truth" from the book Unity of Good, by MBE. It is linked to the recording of the complete article:

an acknowledgment of the perfection of the infinite Unseen confers a power nothing else can. An incontestable point in divine Science is, that because God is All, a realization of this fact dispels even the sense or consciousness of sin, and brings us nearer to God, bringing out the highest phenomena of the All-Mind.

  • Watch in making a decision

"Every step towards goodness is a departure from materiality, and is a tendency towards God, Spirit. Material theories partially paralyze this attraction towards infinite and eternal good by an opposite attraction towards the finite, temporary, and discordant." (S&H)

  • Watch refresher

    Subject: Watch for your home

Write a watch for your own home. Don't fall into the trap of writing what you think you are supposed to, but rather look into your own heart, and work from there.

We will share these watches, and offer feedback as to how they might be better, or just how great they already are :)

  • Watching vs Watching Out

    TEXT: Watching vs Watching Out

DISCUSSION: Bring the points that caught your attention in this reading - insights...

WATCH: Start by covering yourself/home, then move to your community, our nation, the world.

WATCH — God’s law is justice and Truth, which is strength, and the law of extermination to envy or evil, which is weakness... God is the only Mind; so there can be no other minds affecting me. Lies have no other power, nor has envy, jealousy, hatred or avarice. They cannot be made use of to harm me or mine. Love is omnipotent, all-seeing, all-powerful, All- in-all. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth as in heaven, and earth is heaven. (WPA)

  • What to do with a premonition

When a premonition comes to us, we ought to pay attention - but we need Truth to guide us how to deal with it.

What is that Truth? That there is a loving God that never condemns us.

  • Who is born of God and cannot sin?

We have heard so much about being "born again." What's up with that? It is thought that once you profess that Jesus is Lord, or something like that, you are in! Then this morning (from audio selection below) I read that those born of God cannot sin. I'd like to meet that person. (btw - Elsewhere in the same book it says anyone who claims he is without sin is a liar!)
