In this age when empirical knowledge is king, when folks trust in science as the hope of mankind, it is not surprising that God has taken a back seat. After all, there is no evidence that He exists! And reality is defined by empirical evidence, right! God is best suited to dealing with death, and the belief of after-life - once science has given up and hands the body over to the priest.
But consider just how much of existence is invisible and yet the basis of our operation. Did you know that scientists are stumped regarding consciousness? And yet we can all agree that consciousness is quite real. In fact, Herbert Eustace makes the point that the only thing we can be sure of is that "I exist", since that is the only thing that does not rely on something outside of ourselves.
Laws of the physical universe, of mathematics, of music are all invisible. They exist without being written down. They are enforced by nothing visible.
"We tread on forces. Withdraw them, and
creation must collapse. Human knowledge calls them
forces of matter; but divine Science declares that they
belong wholly to divine Mind, are inherent in this
Mind, and so restores them to their rightful home and
classification." (S&H)
Jesus stated emphatically: "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing." Surely this is practical teaching directing us to cultivate trust in the invisible God, Spirit, for wisdom, love, confidence, for life itself. As the world is facing an array of problems that have no answers that folks can agree upon, we (each individually - not a group thing!) would do well to turn to Him for help:
"One infinite God, good, unifies men and nations; constitutes
the brotherhood of man; ends wars; fulfils the Scripture,
'Love thy neighbor as thyself;' " (S&H)
