"T'aint so" powerful treatment?

TEXT: "The patient began his tale of woe, and it was a long one. When he made his first pause the black practitioner quietly said, "T'aint so, T'aint so." and on he went and each time he paused she would again softly say, "T'aint so," T'aint so," but on he would go. Of course, when he had finished his recital, "T'aint so" had won the day, and the man was entirely healed." (excerpted from "A Collection of Letters by Herbert Eustace")

DISCUSSION:

1. How could such a simple statement carry such power? How does extensive argument get in the way?

2. "When thought is lost in the eminence of Mind the healing takes place."(MBE) - How is this done?
