Too often people obsess about meeting others' expectations, or they live in fear of the malpractice/bad thoughts that others may be holding of them. These describe the realm of personal sense, wherein there is no God, no Principle, no rock to stand upon.
1. Trying to please others: Trying to confom to what we think others may be expecting of us is a precarious path. The one important thing for the individual to be concerned with is what God thinks about him - put another way, how he aligns himself with Principle, the law of his being. If he is jealous, fearful, resentful, he is surely out of line with Principle/Love. At this point, trying to please someone else is doomed to failure. The correction required is in his own mental household. "God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind," a promise of empowerment from the Good Book.
2. Fear of what others are thinking: But surely we must protect ourselves from someone who is hating us. Where are we to apply our efforts? In somehow mentally preventing the hater from hating us, or punishing him? Good luck! But to turn away from person to Principle, to God, the one Intelligence - this is a conciousness impervious to what others may be thinking. It takes moral fortitude to withstand the temptation to "go after the hater," and many fine workers have yielded to the temptation only to lose their integrity - to step out of Science into the realm of witchcraft, mental will-power! Better to stand with:
"The exterminator of error is the great truth that God, good, is the only Mind, and that the supposititious opposite of infinite Mind -- called devil or evil -- is not Mind, is not Truth, but error, without intelligence or reality." (S&H)
THIS IS ABSOLUTE TRUTH!
"Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth..." (Ephesians 6)
