Yesterday at the super-market, I commented to the guy manning the register that he and the others seemed to be in good spirits. His quick response was: "Happiness is a choice." When the customer next to me suggested it is not always easy, he insisted, "Sure it is. We just make it difficult for ourselves." "Comes from within, not from the things around us," I chimed in. He nodded in agreement.
He was so genuine in his convictions, not the slightest hint of self-righteousness - I even resisted asking him about his faith (my usual tendency). He was beyond what he was taught, if he had been taught at all! A wonderful example. Reminded me of the passage in Jeremiah that prophesies one day there will be no need to teach about God, because they will already know Him, "from the least unto the greatest."
