"Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God." Well then, purity has got to be a thing to aim for! HOWEVER, it has been my experience that those who talk about it most, are most likely to cover their impurity, and end up at the short end of the stick.
Recently, I was struck by the rushing water of mountain streams - I marvelled at the vitality, the unbridled joy, the purity that it expressed. There was no self-consciousness, no trying to be lively, or joyous, or pure. Is there not a lesson in this? "Man is the expression of Soul." (S&H) As expression, there is no self-awareness.
"Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." (Jesus) I used to find that the most discouraging statement ever! But now - it is more about getting out of the way than trying to be better, more about relinquishing false trusts and personal ambition. Again from Jesus: "I can of mine own self do nothing". "The Father that dwelleth in me, He doeth the works." We cannot do better than that!
