“Call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven." (Jesus Christ) This is not a call for fatherless homes! The welfare system which has encouraged such has had a devastating effect! But why then would Jesus say “Call no man your father upon the earth:”?
Modern Christianity’s downplaying God as the focal point of living is the natural outcome of a secular society in which the flesh is everything and the spirit is an uncomfortable subject. What a far cry from another of Jesus’ declarations: “It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing.” No wonder Jesus admonition’s regarding fatherhood is not respected.
Jesus contradicted secularism on every front because his whole being was God-centric, and so it must be for his followers. To claim a father upon earth is identifying oneself as flesh and all “that flesh is heir to”, denying the Father in heaven as parent, and foregoing one’s rightful heritage: “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; “ (St Paul)
Obeying Jesus' admonition can only strengthen the family, where God, the Father, is the head of the household. From Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures:
Jesus said, "No man can serve two masters."
We cannot build safely on false foundations. Truth
makes a new creature, in whom old things pass away
and "all things are become new." Passions, selfishness,
false appetites, hatred, fear, all sensuality, yield to spirit-
uality, and the superabundance of being is on the side
of God, good. (S&H)
