How often do we hear something like: I just want to know my purpose. What am I here for?
This morning I opened to this in Isaiah: "The Lord of hosts hath purposed, and who shall disannul it?"
If we accept the premise that there is a God, surely it follows that He has a design, and we are somehow included. Then it remains to align ourselves to Him, and fulfil His purpose for us. The alternative would be contrary to the Principle of the universe and could not be good!
One of the biggest impediments to knowing our purpose is our concern about what others think - or perhaps better said, what we think other people might be thinking. This we refer to as personal sense, and quite frankly, it is a cesspool. So if we are wise, we enter our closet and shut the door - shut out all those voices, and turn to God, which means listening to what is in our heart, and trusting our desires with Him. "This is what I want - not my will, but Thine be done."
I don't know of many who get a nice clear answer: My purpose is... but there comes an assurance that this is the way to go, rather than trying to please others. It remains to kindle that desire to do His will, to return to the closet when needed, and take your best shot going forward. You cannot possibly go wrong with this approach, and every so-called misstep will be a step forward.
This is a short excerpt from the chapter Prayer in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. It's really good!
