Lie: The Creator assigned to life a time limit. From the moment it begins, the clock starts ticking, and death can happen at anytime with no moral justification. Hence the program of mortality.
What a truly heartless lie! because it contradicts the premise that God the Creator is good, perfect, infinite Love.
For thousands of years religionists have danced around this contradiction, claiming an omnipotent good God and yet attributing to Him the woes of the world starting with the creation of Adam from dust. The denial of this contradiction has been supported by the evidence of the physical senses which scream that mortality is real and whisper that God is a mystery - that Adam (or evolution?) is the legitimate origin of man, and man made in the image of God is ethereal, not taken seriously.
Enter Jesus Christ. who was sent to correct the lie. From the Gospel of John: “In him was life; and the life was the light of men.” “whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.” Jesus’ consistent promise was that if we follow him we shall have everlasting life. His disdain for celebrating mortality was expressed in “Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.” He proceeded to submit himself to the crucifixion in order to demonstrate for all time, victory over mortality through his resurrection, according to his heavenly Father’s will.
To follow Christ is ours to do, to ditch the contradiction that a perfect God is the author of imperfect, mortal existence, to turn away from believing we have a life and will of our own separate from Him, and to embrace God as life itself, and that His will is ours to strive to fulfill. This is the way that Jesus showed us, a radical departure from the mainstream. And so is the book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, as can be seen from the following passage:
“The material body and mind are temporal, but the real man is spiritual and eternal. The identity of the real man is not lost, but found through this explanation; for the conscious infinitude of existence and of all identity is thereby discerned and remains unchanged. It is impossible that man should lose aught that is real, when God is all and eternally his. The notion that mind is in matter, and that the so-called pleasures and pains, the birth, sin, sickness, and death of matter, are real, is a mortal belief; and this belief is all that will ever be lost.” Note: Mortal belief = not of God.
In Jesus’ words: “He that loveth his [material, mortal] life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it [his spiritual identity] unto life eternal.” (John 12:25)
