"(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God," (2 Corinthians)
The knowledge of God is not in vogue these days. Even satanism is getting more favorable coverage in the press! We got here through a disregard for St Paul’s instruction in the foregoing scripture. Let’s consider a couple of “high things” running amok in the world today.
The World Economic Forum (WEF) purports a scheme to save the world from self-destruction, exalting itself against the knowledge of God, and planning for a handful of know-it-alls to play the role of the Almighty.
The “woke” culture is another attempt to make the world a better place while exalting itself against the knowledge of God. Shockingly, many Christian churches have been taking this path, in effect placing God in the back seat while the carnal mind leads the way despite St Paul’s warning:
“the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.”
What can be done is to start with number one If Jesus could say: “I can of mine own self do nothing. The Father that dwelleth in me, He doeth the works.” would not we be wise to strive to emulate him and escape the trap of exalting ourselves against the knowledge of God? From here we are reminded that our weapons are mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds...
The knowledge of God is not something dependent upon a church experience or training. In fact this may be an hindrance if it detracts from one’s individual, practical relationship with the Father, expressed so beautifully by the Psalmist:
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.”
In the following excerpt, to make plain how utterly reliant mankind is upon one infinite God, good, I have inserted emphasis in bold brackets:
“One infinite God, good, unifies men and nations; [nothing else can] constitutes the brotherhood of man; [nothing else does] ends wars; [nothing else can] fulfils the Scripture, "Love thy neighbor as thyself;" [nothing else can] annihilates pagan and Christian idolatry, [nothing else can] — whatever is wrong in social, civil, criminal, political, and religious codes; [nothing else can] equalizes the sexes; [nothing else can] annuls the curse on man, [nothing else can] and leaves nothing that can sin, suffer, be punished or destroyed. [nothing else can]” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy)
